Understanding Operations Of The Machine

Why attend this learning programme?

This course covers the basic operation of an earthmoving equipment machine. Course delegates will gain an in-depth knowledge of safety related to machine operation, the operation of the machine component systems, operating techniques of the machine.

Who should attend?

This course is aimed at Operators of Plant Equipment (machines)

What are the course pre-requisites?

Course delegates must have a working knowledge of earthmoving equipment machines, construction and or mining and must be able to communicate at an NQF level 1: literacy and numeracy

What are the learning outcomes?

Explain safety procedures when maintaining and or operating the machine
Demonstrate knowledge of the functions of a machine
Plan for work activities and prepare work area
Start and shut down a machine
Operate a machine
Transport a machine to and from site

Course Duration?

5 Days theory, followed by practical training and assessment.

What will you learn?

Day One:
Course introduction
Introduction to the NQF and SAQA
Explain the main functions of the machine
Explain the operation of the major components
Identify and explain all safety features and warning devices
Explain the maximum operating capacities of the machine
Explain the warning system of the machine
Day Two:
Personal protective equipment
Pre-shift inspections
Day Three:
Start-up and shutdown procedures
Park and shutdown the machine
Day Four:
Explain the purpose of the various controls of the machine
Demonstrate the various controls of the machine
Follow safe working procedures
Monitor machine performance and take corrective action where necessary
Operate the machine without risk of damage or loss
Explain ways to minimise hazards specific to operating the machine
Day Five
Load and transport the machine
Secure the machine for transport
Complete all documents relating to assessment

What is the preferred number of delegates per course?

For the best benefit to learners, we require a minimum of 5 delegates and a maximum of 15 delegates for the theory training, and practical training will be limited to 5 delegates per one training session.
